Had a great experience in Washington DC at the Teachers for Global Classrooms Symposium. Met many wonderful and dedicated educators committed to the goal of improving public education in this country.
Was inspired by many of the ideas shared: Homa Tavangar's ideas for bringing global education to our zip code and our passions into our curriculum, and Deborah Hefferon's thoughts about examining our own values as we navigate other countries. I enjoyed listening to alumni Mariam Al-Shawaf, Randy French, Steve Weissburg, and Jennice Wright because their ideas gave me hope that this work could be done in a meaningful way, and these changes could be lasting. The smaller sessions I was a part of were exceptional--I connected with my Colombia cohort (we are going to have a great time!), I received thoughtful input on my student work, learned how to develop a specific and effective research question, and was given a heap of excellent resources to study before and after my trip. What an incredible program! I am furiously writing notes for myself about how to incorporate this work to benefit my community, school, and students, while these ideas are still fresh in my mind. I'm traveling to a Teachers for Global Classrooms Symposium in our country's capital, Washington DC. I'm excited to meet all the other teachers participating in this program, but also, the teachers that will travel with me to Columbia in July. What do you know about Washington DC? What questions would you like me to find answers for while I'm here?
