Teen pregnancy is a problem around the world because most of the countries get over populated or teenagers don't have the right information and don't have enough money to support themselves and the baby. When it comes to different cultures most of the people wont do anything because they don't want to break the culture. Most of the cultures will marry there child at a young age. Programs that have been initiated is the UNFPA they have different organizations in different parts of the world especially in the rural areas. What this programs does it gives information out to schools and the community and it helps pregnant girls and moms and also helps young guys. Some ideas that I been thinking is spreading the information that we know to younger kids. Get the community more involved.

I agree with you about getting the community more involved because what society has to realize that a teenager pregnant dosen't just reflect her parents but society as well! people need to stop being afraid of having the "sex talk" and just educate teens. Schools, parents, Tv shows, social media etc all have an effect on teenagers and if their portraying sex as the best thing ever, teens are going to believe it maybe want to try it, but if they know the consequences of unprotected sex, std's, pregnancy, etc they might just might say no :) and thats all we need.

The only certain way to avoid unwanted pregnancies is to abstain from sexual intercourse. For adolescents who are sexually active, using effective contraceptives (such as condoms, birth control pills, the patch, the vaginal ring, the intrauterine device and/or injectable birth control methods) every time that they have sexual intercourse will reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancy. In addition to using a contraceptive method that protects against pregnancy, using condoms correctly with every sex act from start to finish will reduce the risk of HIV and other STDs for males and females.

Yes I agree with you . I think that more people should be involved in these programs to help prevent. I think it would be a good idea to share this to many people and get everyone involved. I also believe that parents should be more involved with their teenagers and not get uncomfortable in talking to them about sexuality.

Teen pregnancy is a problem around the world partially because teen pregnancies can be dangerous for the health of both infant and mother but also its effect on the economy. teen parents affect the high school drop out and unemployment rate but some cultures don't see a problem with an 11 year old getting married and having children for example Ethiopians, they marry as children and start trying to conceive right after marriage. yet in Colombia Catalina Escobar is trying to promote the opposite message. heres a link to describe whats she's doing for these young moms.

I agree with you because its not right for cultures to let there young children get married at a young age and letting them get pregnant. I feel that some of this cultures know the consequence of this children getting pregnant or getting married but they don't want to face the problem either because they are scared or they just don't want to break with what they grew up with. Us like teen moms we should be the ones that should make a change and talk to our kids when there bigger, we shouldn't wait the way our parents did and what other parents around the world are doing.

I also agree but the only reason these cultures make force their children into marriage is because of their religion or cause they don't want to be dishonored by their family. They are scared that their children will be sexually active at a young age and get pregnant without being married. And the religion is that they think if they do not marrie off their children at a young age they think that they will go to hell.

Teen pregnancy is a common thing in some countries but for others it is an issue. In some cultures teen pregnancy is normal and in others some girls are forced into marriage and having kids as young as 10 and in other cultures the males are encouraged to be sexually active by age 9. Most people blame the parents for not watching their children but the real ones are to blame is their education they do not have that much knowledge of sex or birth control/condoms. Some think it is the girls fault for getting pregnant but is both the girls and the boys fault for not using any type of protection and it is also lack of education that these teens get nowadays the school bored is teaching teens abstinence which obviously will not work so they need to tech actual sex ed and tell them how they can protect their selves from diseases and pregnancy.. If the school would teach actual sex ed their would possibly be a decrees in teen pregnancy. And most teens don't have a choice to make their own decisions.

i agree with you about teaching abstinence in school, its not 100% safe because not all students are going to decide to be abstinent and a back up plan should be offered.

I completely agree with this as a possible solution to try to help prevent teen pregnancy . The idea of abstinence in this generation is almost unheard of. There are not many teens that choose to be abstinence and sometimes teens are even pressured into becoming sexually active. In other countries some girls are sexually active through prostitution as an attempt to help their family.

Yes i agree with you Natalie, I think there should be more actual sex education classes in schools, as well as more programs outside of school that will help teenagers be safe and help prevention of pregnancy.

I agree, the major issue is the lack of education. Most people dont know anything about birth control or using protection or what the consequences are of having a child at a young age, id say it is less of a problem in the US because we have access to resources. But in other countries teens wouldnt even know what to buy or where to get it.

yes their are the negatives in teen pregnancy but their is also positives about it like if they don't have anyone in their family that they care about they have kids to fulfill that need of giving/ receiving love. and sometimes most teens don't have a choice to either keep or not keep their baby's sometimes the parent force abortion or adoption or the teens just get kicked out of their homes.

I agree, teen pregnancy can affect both teenagers and their baby in positive and negative ways. For the teen it could affect them in a negatively mental way. Not many teens intend to become pregnant and when they share their pregnancy with parents, they are often belittled and reprimanded and sometimes even thrown out. It is even harder for teens who have multiple children as they are more likely to have birth defects and also more likely to be a teen parent themselves, have behavioral problems, or end up in prison. It affects them in a positive way because having a child might be the thing that drives them to be more successful in life.

I agree, but i think it differs in different countries because in countries where poverty is an issue, there is less resources than in an area where poverty is not an issue. Another issue is the things that have been taught to these teens. They are not educated on pregnancy

Teen pregnancy is definitely a problem around the world especially in Columbia where there is extreme poverty. In most countries especially in different countries many teen are belittled and reprimanded for becoming pregnant. Especially in Tanzania where the children are encouraged to engage in sexual activity at age nine but are kicked out of school when they become pregnant. It is a problem because some teens may feel that they can not continue their education because they are pregnant, or have children. I believe that contraceptives should be more available especially in foreign countries. I have not come up with any solutions for this problem.

Yes teen pregnancy is a big problem around the world. Becoming Pregnant at a young age can affect birth issues as well as difficulties to both the baby and the mom. Many times the birth can be a big problem and either one can die. Teen pregnancy can be caused my many situations such as the lack of sex education in schools, not enough information on using protection and how to prevent from getting pregnant, or its also because some parents are not comfortable with having the "talk" with their teenagers yet about sexuality. Many parents don't know when it should be the right time to talk about it with their teenagers. There is some family planning programs that help parents as well as their children all about sexuality, how to be safe, and how to prevent from pregnancy. It also helps the parents more about helping them be ready to give their teenagers the talk about sexuality.

I agree with you because in most schools around the world don't give the right information and parents are to scared to have the "talk" if more parents would open up to there kids it would be a higher chance that they wont do it. Now in days theres a lot of programs that teenagers and parents can go and get help and get more information about the consequence and when its the right time to talk.

I agree with you Giselle I believe a lot of teens get pregnant because they did not have enough knowledge about sex before they tried it. For example sex education is usually taught around elementary school when I think it should be once children mature into teenagers. That way at this age they will remember because if you teach to kids in such a low grade as elementary school they may not care because children that young do not care or think of sex at all.

Teen pregnancy is a big problem around the world. Teens have it a lot harder because some stop going to school and they leave their teenage years to being a parent. Some parts of the world aren't getting an education and when they are getting their education some at the age of 9 are being taught to have sex. Later when the young girls are pregnant they end up getting kicked out of school. Not every place has support. Young teens should be giving the chance to what into their school and ask for condoms without getting in trouble. This doesn't mean your telling them it's okay to have sex but your just simply prevent them by having a sexual transmitted disease. It's not that you what to encourage a teen to have sex you want nothing but to keep them safe. They get to an age were the hormones fly and you just can't cage a teen to never leave the house. There should be resource about sex, transmitted disease, birth controls and when is the right time for sex. We are one of the biggest helpful place that we have and should be thankful of having a place where we can go to when we got pregnant we are offered with daycare so we are able to grow in our education for nothing but the best for us and our children.

Yes Diana you are most definetly right. When adults think of the topic of teens getting introduced to sex the majority of them automaticly think it is something wrong and teens should not even do it. But when in reality teens will do as they please weather it is choosing to have sex or not. Its better to show them the right way to do so you do not a transmitted sexual disease or get pregnant at such a young age where you are not ready for a baby because your still in school or whatever your case may be. Its best to teach teens more about sex then simply ignoring the topic.

I don't think teen pregnancy is a problem but also it is problem around world because You are actually having a baby with is so amazing and the baby will change your life forever. I also think its a problem because in some places around the world wealth and doctors are not in the options so you have to have certain things to have a baby with is food, home. Different cultures deal with all the issues by there religion, stepping up doing something about the way of their life. They pretty much do anything to do better in every way. Programs that initiated to control the problem is one to help the Pregnant teens to know more about their baby and so they can have a better life for the baby and help them as in support them. Catalina has this program, it is like New Futures School but in Colombia. http://www.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/d3837571-bf57-4544-a634-bb1ee74ff793/teen-pregnancy-in-colombia-film-module-a-path-appears/ It helps teens to influence them to have the baby and everything about how and what they need for the problem.

Teen pregnancy is a problem because the rate of it is increasing and there are programs available to help encourage teens to not get pregnant but some are not affective. Because thats the problem alot of teens in this time get pregnant because they were not as well educated about the factors of sex. Also some parents did not explain any information about sex to their children. So i think it will help if teens get more educated about sex ed.

Teen pregnancy is becoming a big problem and yes many parts of the world are being encouraged to have sex but that shouldn't be the case. Places like Tanzania and other parts of the world should be provided with education, care, birth controls and they should be able to have young adolescence groups where they can talk about sex, birth controls etc..

I believe that teen pregnancy is a problem around the world but in some countries it is less of a problem than most, like in the United States there are many programs that assist you and we have more access to resources like WIC, TANF, SNAP ect... there are also lots of shelters that house pregnant women and it is easier to research and be more educated on subjects like this. But in other countries they dont have access to as many resources or forms of help and most teens in poverty stricken countries are uneducated bout teen pregnancy and birth control
